As the levers that have cogs on the end of them move up as demonstrated here, the screw moves down. Then you turn it and it drills into the cork.
If you move the handles/levers around 25cm the screw moves about 2.5cm this shows that the screw moves one tenth the distance that you move the handles.
The handle that you turn doubles as a lever to take off bottle caps. The effort x distance from the pivot point = the load x it’s distance from the pivot point. In this case the load is the bottle cap and the effort is the force you apply with your hand. Force Pivot point
