  1. What is an analogy? An analogy is a type of word problem that is made up of two pairs of words Here is an example: GRACEFUL:CLUMSY::late: ____________ To solve an analogy find a word that correctly completes the second pair.

  2. When you first read the words in an analogy they may seem to have nothing to do with each other, but the words are always somehow related or connected. To solve the analogy, you have to find how they are related.

  3. Read the analogy like this:“Graceful is to clumsy as late is to blank.” Ask yourself: “How are graceful and clumsy related? They are antonyms or words that mean the opposite. The second pair of words must also be opposites or antonyms. Fill in the word that means the opposite of late and you’ve solved the analogy!!

  4. Did you guess? That’s right!! “early” is the answer GRACEFUL:CLUMSY::late:early “graceful is to clumsy as late is to early”
