Globalisation and exclusion • “Information Society” is not neutral • It is bound up with forces that perpetuate & intensify exclusion [1] • While this aggressive phase of capitalism results in economic growth in some countries, millions of people remain excluded from growth WSF Workshop Nairobi July 2006
Global contradictions • Age of the Internet, yet 80 per cent of the world’s population have not used a phone • Age of democracy, yet world’s richest three men own more than GDP of the 48 poorest nations*. • Possibilities for a better life for all, yet marginalisation and exclusion for the majority.
