21st Century 2.0 Project The 21st Century 2.0 Project will engage one academy of teachers in training, planning and exploring the use of various technologies in a 1:1 learning environment, creating a model for launching Hillview in an environment rich with tools to promote 21st Century learning and thinking skills.

The Highlights • Easier transition from home to school—everything in one place • Has made research easier • More work can be done in class rather than waiting to get home • Portable—work can be done anywhere (groupwork) • Camera for projects • Created more videos and hands-on projects—more exciting ways to show knowledge • Quick access to the Internet • iBooks: easier to annotate and use of online dictionary • Makes communication with teachers easier outside of school • Online Textbooks • QR codes linked to labs
The Challenges • Bringing it to school everyday charged • Had to be more careful with backpacks • Wifi issues in some rooms • Lack of a wireless printer • Typing on the on-screen keyboard • The cases • Picking up the iPads in the afternoon • Makes class harder when iPad is forgotten at home or in repair • Ability to switch apps and get off task • Difficulty connecting to VGA adapter (SmartBoard) • Too many apps

Could the same learning have happened without the technology? • How has 1:1 access changed the way teachers address the diverse needs of learners at all ability levels? • What are the benefits and limitations of each technology tool being used in the pilot?
Which resources best met the teaching and learning needs? What tools are needed for an individual, for a classroom, for an academy? • How do we provide access to students beyond the school day? • Has it made the environment more green? Less printing? Less ink? • What are issues related to organization, storage, security of devices?
