  1. Managed Wetlands Treatment System Schematic Water with phosphorus is mixed with chemicals. These chemicals bind with the phosphorus and settle out of the water. Inflow with Moderate to Low Phosphorus Concentration Settling Chemical Addition and Mixing Outflow with Lower Phosphorus Concentration Solids Disposal After chemical treatment, water is directed into a constructed wetland for additional phosphorus removal and conditioning. It is then discharged to the Everglades. Lab scale tests are used to determine the amount of chemicals needed to remove phosphorus.
