Effects • Rapid series of power failures • Telephone network is down due to overloading of lines • Public transport crippled due to the complete closure of the underground, closure of Zone 1 bus networks and evacuation of Russell Square • Economic impacts • Pound fell 0.89 cents to a 19 month low • Markets in UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain all fell about 1% on that day • US market rose slightly
