  2. Why do we do Commitments In order to run our hosted meets which provide our club with its major source of revenue To give our children opportunities to compete in their “home pools”

  3. Requirements Each family has to complete a certain number of sessions ( or pay $60/session) An average session normally lasts 4.5 hours ( 1 hour warmup followed by 3.5 hours of competition) If you are required to do 15 sessions this means 67.5 hours (Our website will track the number of hours you complete) Setup and safety marshall duties count as additional hours

  4. Basic Expectations Arrive ready to work before the beginning of warmup as we cannot start the meet without two safety marshalls in place Let us (James and Andrea) know if you will be arriving late so that we don’t waste time rearranging the assignments

  5. Basic Expectations Part Deux Wear something white and comfortable ( it is hot and you will get splashed) Bring a reusable water bottle Check in with us when you arrive at the meet ( upstairs at Victor Davis and in the equipment room at U of G ) Find out when the briefing is and make sure you are present for it

  6. Setup and Take Down Every meet requires the setup crew spend 1-5 hours setting everything up At the end of the last session of a hosted meet we ask everyone to pitch in and help take things down With everyone helping we can do this in less than 30 minutes!

  7. Officials In order to run a high quality meet that other teams want to attend we need to have quality officials

  8. Sometimes Officiating can be like herding cats

  9. Officials Everyone should register at osoa.ca

  10. Officials Everyone should take the basic timer clinic ( this makes you a level I) In order to move “up the ladder” you need to take clinics and get experience at the different positions

  11. Officials We must have a certain number of level II, III , IV and V officials to run sanctioned meets To become a qualified official you must take clinics and get experience at different positions After getting experience you need to ask for a deck evaluation from the meet referee

  12. Bonus hours More qualified officials get extra credits A level II official gets a 1.5 hour credit for every hour they complete A level III official gets a 2.0 hour credit for every hour they complete

  13. Clinics Clinics can either be done in person or online through the osoa website Clinics will be running next weekend in St Thomas

  14. Signing up for a job First sign in

  15. Find the event and click the job signup

  16. Select a job that you are qualified to do

  17. Click the signup button and then add the name of the volunteer

  18. The following jobs do not require past experience Timer/safety marshall Setup Runner

  19. A few notes when officiating 1 Have fun, you have the best view in the house 2 Leave the cell phones in your pockets. The swimmers deserve your full attention 3 Tempting as it is please do not cheer your swimmer when they are racing
