Norwich Tech CLUBS
Animè & Manga Students will be designing and drawing school and age appropriate individual Anime, and reading and swapping Manga. Anime refers to an animation style originated in Japan. It is characterized by distinctive characters and backgrounds that visually set it apart from other forms of animation. Storylines cover many different genre and appeal to all kinds of audiences. Manga is a Japanese “Comic”, much like Marvel Comics except that they are printed in black and white and are read from right to left. Manga has a mixture of different styles, each one different according to the artist who draws them.
Archery • The Archery club is for students of all skill levels. The cost is $7.50 for range time. • We will be shooting at the Norwich Archery Club range. The range features both indoor and outdoor shooting areas. • Students MUST have their own bows and arrows. • Club is limited to 10 students.
Board Games • Play Scrabble, Monopoly, Risk, Checkers, etc. You may bring your own games!
Book Club • For students in grades 9-12 who enjoy spending time reading for recreation and would like the opportunity to share in a discussion of selected books across various genres.
Bowling • Ten Pin Bowling at the Norwich Lanes. The cost is $6 per student per club period. If you don’t bring your money, you will be assigned a book to read. • (This club is limited to upperclassmen because of the number of students who need to be transported.)
Dance • Do you enjoy dance? Would you like join a club where you can learn new moves to your favorite songs or practice steps to a wide variety of music and coached by a Norwich Tech student who shares your enthusiasm for dance. Come join us!
Digital Photography • Digital Photography Club explores how the basics of composition and natural lighting, as well as camera management, can improve the overall quality of your photographs regardless of your camera. We will compose and make pictures in a variety of settings for the purpose of sharing in a constructive learning environment. Students should have their own digital camera. FOR DIGITAL CAMERAS ONLY– WE WILL NOT BE WORKING WITH PRINTING OR FILM.
Fishing • The Fishing Club conducts trips (weather permitting) to local areas that provide opportunities for students to practice their skills in fishing - Norwich Harbor, Spaulding Pond, Ouellett Reservoir and the Quinebaug Hatchery are some. Tackle tips are provided as well as discounts at Thayer’s Bait and Tackle (Club Card required). Limited to 20 students. NOTE - Students over 16 must have proof of fishing license.
Fitness and Nutrition for Girls • Girls ONLY Fitness club! Stay in shape by learning many cardio fitness techniques including, Cardio Kickboxing, Yoga and even some Jillian Michael’s videos. We will also go outside for power walks, and cardio workouts in the fresh air. You will need to bring sneakers and a sweatshirt if we go out!
Gay Straight Alliance GSA • The Gay-Straight Alliance is just that. It’s an alliance formed among students of all orientations in their pursuit of acceptance, friendship, and understanding. Topics can cover families, relationships, stress, and political issues at large. The club will do activities to raise money for educational videos and a field trip to the True Colors Conference in March.
Hiking • There will be three levels of hiking: • Easy walk – around the school, around the block • Moderate hiker– some of the trails in Mohegan Park and other local areas • Super Hiker – will explore some more challenging foot paths and trails around Norwich Tech • You must have comfortable shoes and be ready for adventure.
Hogie’s Heroes Be A Hero • Want to use your talents and help others while having fun? Hogie’s heroes helps the homeless heat up with sleeping bags, builds a partying parade float, constructs crafts for cool kids, becomes a costumed canned food collection crew, cuts, creates, and paints ornaments for older adults, and rounds up registered voters!
International Club • Do you speak a foreign language or want to learn some phrases in another language?? Share your language and heritage or learn about countries around the world! Each month the International Club will learn about a different country. Students can teach mini-language lessons, see CD’S about the people, geography, create power points about their favorite country and provide a recipe for our international cookbook. The teacher will provide a snack from the country of the month keeping in mind food allergies. The game RISK will be played as well as other international games.
Karaoke • Sing along with your favorite songs – Have fun with your friends.
Open Gym • Organized team games will be played each club period. • Limited to 20 people. • Usually limited to upperclassmen.
Pep Band • This club is intended to create a band that will supply performances for sports and school activities. The band will consist of one drummer, two guitarists, one bass and any brass or woodwind players available. Any student who owns his or her own brass or woodwind instrument and has some background in music may join. The students that will fill the rhythm section must be auditioned. All students are required to participate in after school performances and will be required to wear a given uniform.
Robotics • Club members will design and build ROBOTS of various types and sizes using VEX Robot kits. We may be participating in Regional Robot competitions. We will also begin designing and building a full size Robot.
Skateboarding • Spend your club period skateboarding at the Norwich Skate Park (or watching skate videos if the weather is yucky)! Shows off your skills, play ‘skate’, try not to ‘slam’ too badly and get some exercise. This club is for skateboarders only- not for people who just want to ‘hang out’ at the skate park.
Skills USA Skills USA is a state, national, and international organization that fosters the development of leadership abilities, trade skills, and community involvement. Officers may attend the Statesman’s Conference in the fall and every student is welcomed to compete in the annual states competition in the spring. Skills USA is also involved in many community service projects throughout the year. Join and make this an unforgettable year for our chapter.
Table Tennis • Come play table tennis. Its fast paced, aggressive, and even violent (not really). Hone your skills in singles and doubles and eventually participate in the Warrior Table Tennis Championships.
Video Gaming • Come join the digital revolution! Animators and video gamers can gather to exchange tips, ideas, discuss new digital technologies and play video games. Students will be able to bring in their video console(s) and/or equipment to play video games on television sets available in the CADD shop. We will have a limited number of television sets available. Students are also permitted to play internet games that are available through the school’s internet filter only. All games will be monitored and approved by club advisors prior to playing.
Water Car • Can cars run on water alone? Join the WCClub and find out! Research the possibilities, apply the knowledge and finally, if possible, construct a working/running example. For automotive students first … if space allows all other students welcome.
Yearbook • Bring your creativity as you develop Norwich Tech’s 2011 Yearbook. The yearbook is developed online and we need students who are willing to commit to working on the book at home on their own computer! Come have input into how this year’s book looks!
Zumba • ZUMBA: is a cardio fitness dance class set to international rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, samba, reggaeton, cumbia, belly dancing, flamenco, tango and much more. Join the Fun, Join the Party!
