  1. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 1: Management of the Colorado River, history, implementation. How is flow measured, controlled, distributed--how can it be improved--is there fair and equitable use? The future?

  2. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 2: Climate change and population trends in western NA--history of climate change to predictions for next century. Can we control growth of population centers? Where does water come from now? What controls population distribution-what are the predictions for next century and thus water use.

  3. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 3: Trans-boundary issues: Mexico/United States/Canada. Legal and moral obligations and responsibilities, Free Trade agreement

  4. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 4: Irrigation---farming, optimizing food output, subsidies, environmental degradation, improved efficiency--how much is essential?

  5. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 5: The state of groundwater reserves: Ogallala aquifer in particular, greater Denver area, natural recharge, artificial recharge and storage, lifetime of major reservoirs?

  6. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 6: Desalinization and sewage treatment: economics- viability Engineering, environmental impact, energy consumption, scalability?

  7. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 7: Energy resource production and water. Demand for energy rising! Oil shale mining, uranium mining, oil and gas production, coal mines, cooling water for centralized power production? How can we minimize use and contamination

  8. MISSION 2012 TEAMS Team 8: Economics of water: Privatization of water supplies and sewage treatment? Implementation and enforcement of conservation, How much can we charge for water? Role of governments. Large scale water diversion projects?

  9. MISSION 2012 TEAMS • All teams: Design an integrated plan to ensure the supply of fresh clean water for everyone in western North America---Estimate the cost---yes it will be expensive! • Plan for next 100 years--be bold! • Interact with other teams

  10. MISSION 2012 Class Meeting Monday September 8 32-155 Each team gets five minutes to introduce themselves and make a statement about their topic: Could be a few factoids or statement of major issues and/or possible links with other teams: Each team should appoint a temporary leader and 1-3 powerpoint slides should be sent to Sam before 2 PM on Monday.
