  2. What is Digital Footprint? • A digital footprint is the data left by the interactions in a digital environment. Including the use of TV, mobile phone, the world wide web, the internet and other connected devices and sensors. • Everything you post online combines to make your digital footprint. Remember that what you share with your friends may also be viewed by people you don’t know. And once it’s online, it could be there forever. So think before you post!

  3. Examples of Digital Footprint • a profile on Facebook , MySpace, Twitter, Instagram. • photographs that you, your friends or family have posted online • anything you have written or that has been written about you, for instance on discussion boards, blogs, or in articles.

  4. Be careful what you share • If you use social networking sites such as Facebook, or regularly post photos, videos, blogs and comments, make sure to manage your contributions carefully, since much of the information stored online becomes public by default. Unless you change your privacy settings, your social network page will come up on a web search. • Anyone who finds out enough about you could potentially impersonate you, so be careful about the personal information you make publicly available. • Potential employers have also been known to reject applicants on the basis of information discovered online.

  5. Managing your digital footprint • Keeping your personal details private. Use a nickname instead of your real name and always ask your parents before giving out your name, address or phone number online. • Not sharing your username or password with anyone • . Thinking before you post. Once posted, it can be difficult to remove. • Not posting things that you don't want others to know about.

  6. Looking up your own digital footprint Try it: • Google yourself. This can be done through using Google search engine. Type your full name and hit search • Use https://pipl.com/to search more about yourself. Pipl is a great web tool that allows users to search their digital trails.
