It’s time for Math Class! NOT AGAIN! Tyrooooon!!!
Long Division Mr. Skelly Grade 4 Bielefield Elementary
Hopefully we will get to do some “Hands-On” work. I love it when I get to use my hands! Today we will learn and be working on DIVISION.
Guys come back we are going to learn something new today. Why didn’t you say that in the beginning. I love to soak in new information.
Long Division • Long division is as simple as memorizing SpongeBob and his friends. Patrick SpongeBob Plankton Squidward Gary
Long Division 3. Subtract 1. Divide Patrick SpongeBob Each person represents a step in the long division process. 4. Bring down 2. Multiply Gary 5. Repeat or remainder Plankton Squidward
Let’s Check our vocabulary first Quotient Divisor Dividend
Step 1 in Long Division 3 • Divide 2 into the first number in the dividend. • Think how many 2’s will fit into 7. • Write that number directly above the number you divided into. 1. Divide 272 How many 2’s will go into 7? SpongeBob
Step 2 in Long Division 3 2. Multiply • Multiply the divisor times the first number in the quotient. • Write your answer directly under the 7 or the number you just divided. 272 6 Plankton 2 x 3 = 6
Step 3 in Long Division 3 3. Subtract • Draw a line under the 6. • Write a subtraction sign next to the 6. • Subtract 6 from 7. • Write your answer directly below the 6. 272 6 1 Patrick
Step 4 in Long Division 3 4. Bring Down • Go to the next number to the right of the 7. • Write an arrow under the 2. • Bring down the 2 next to the 1. 272 6 1 2 Gary
Step 5 in Long Division 3 5. Repeat or Remainder • This is where you decide whether you repeat the 5 steps of division. • If your divisor can divide into your new number, 12, or if you have numbers that haven’t been brought down , you repeat the 5 steps of division. 272 6 1 2 Squidward
Step 1 in Long Division 3 6 1. Divide • Divide 2 into your new number, 12. • Place your answer directly above the 2 in your quotient. 272 6 1 2 SpongeBob
Step 2 in Long Division 3 6 2. Multiply • Multiply your divisor 2, with your new number in the quotient, 6. • Place your answer directly under the 12. 272 6 1 2 Plankton 12
Step 3 in Long Division 3 6 3. Subtract • Draw a line under the bottom 12. • Draw a subtraction sign. • Subtract & place your answer under the line. 272 6 1 2 12 Patrick 0
Step 4 in Long Division 3 6 4. Bring Down • Look at your dividend to see if there are any more numbers to bring down. • If not, move to step 5. 272 6 1 2 12 Gary 0
Step 5 in Long Division 3 6 5. Repeat or Remainder • Since there are no more numbers to bring down & 2 will not divide into 0, you do not repeat the steps of division. • The number left over, if other than zero becomes the remainder. 272 6 1 2 12 0 Squidward
You did it! You’re so Smart! You’re Awesome! SpongeBob
WHY ARE THEY SO MAD? ALL I SAID WAS LET’S PRACTICE A FEW PROBLEMS. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THAT?
