  3. Factors that influence the old concept map • The old concept map was created during the first 2 weeks of the course. • It was based on the introductory chapter and information provided during the course. • The knowledge was all new to me as a learner.

  4. Design Theory Concept Map 2 http://www.mindomo.com/mindmap/design-theory-2-5b6e0c37bbf84c18b76837e4bcc6de63 link to complete map

  5. Factors that influence second diagram • Most of the theories, models and strategies learned are interlinked and influence each other • The learning material focused mainly on instructional event theory also called instructional theory • There were too many theories and models to incorporate them all into the map. • An effort was made to cover all the main points of theories, models and concepts covered in the course to gain a wide picture

  6. Reflections Doing the concept map has been an excellent tool in helping to realise what I have learned. It also identified the possible gaps that may have occurred in my learning process. The initial concept map gave the basic picture regarding what instructional designed entailed based on my understanding at that time. It highlighted the general relationships between design, distance learning, instructional technology, instructional design theory and the basic elements that came from it.

  7. Reflections cont’d In the new concept map, the initial concept map became the foundation upon which topic areas was further expanded. In particular, the topic of instructional event theory became a focal point based on the readings of the assigned text (Reigeluth & Carr-Chellman, 2010). The knowledge of instructional approaches, models and learning theories were developed and added to the initial knowledge base.

  8. Reflections Cont’d The map was changed thru the addition of new information and relationships building on the initial map. It informed new ideas and thinking about how instructional design theory worked and is developed.
