Welcome SMHS 2012 XC Season - a year full of promise • Great athletes, Great parents, Great Coaches • New practice facilities, first time to host meets in many years, • Over night travel meet Thank you for all your support 3 parts of the meeting Tonight • Tour of the Course (30 mins) • Pizza & Drinks are served • Meeting & questions (75-90 minutes)

  3. 5000m Course: From the start, head towards the lake (yellow line), then a lap around lake (Red line), continue on loop back to start (red line), then 2nd full 2000m loop back to finish (Blue) Note: 1 full loop is 2000m, 1 smaller loop around the lake is 1000m 400m 2800m 1600m 3000m 800m 5000m FINISH 2400m START 2000m 1200m

Fall Schedule Cross Country Meets : 8 in total ( 7 Saturday morning meets and 1 Thursday afternoon Meet) Providence HS (Charlotte, NC - overnight) Starr’s Mill Panther Invitational Carrollton State Preview Sandy Creek Invitational Practices: Days, Times and Locations (general Rule; for details see next page) Mon–Thrs: Heritage CC at 7-8:30pm (Aug- Sep 3); 4-5:30pm Sep 3- Nov 8 Fridays: SMHS Track times vary before school or after school Saturday: locations vary; occasional Sunday: On your own, only a specific Group Banquet: Nov 12 (Monday) Opportunities to Run Post HS: USATF Regionals & Nationals; Footlocker Regionals Asics / Alexander Invitational Country XC Championships (Thursday) Region Meet (SMHS hosts) State Meet Diane

  7. 3. What to Bring to Practice • Good Attitude • Water Bottle • A watch • Good running shoes • Warm weather gear: moisture wicking • Cooler weather: layers as well as light sweats • Cold weather: sweats, hats, gloves Diane

Registration Process and Fees Online registration and online payment • Fees: $155 per athlete • $185 if you did not volunteer at summer meet • Uniform Cost is separate • Prefer for you to pay online, but will accept checks tonight; checks payable to Finish Line Booster Club Athletes Requirements • Physical Form • Signed Contract Pam/ Diane

August 25 Meet: Providence Inv in Charlotte, NC Overview • 45 schools, top NC & SC teams • McAlpin Greenway Park (site of Footlocker South Regionals) • Flat Fast Course with 1 big hill, narrow start • 9am Varsity Boys, 9:30am Varsity Girls, 10am JV Boys, 10:30am JV Girls Eligibility: • 15 summer training session by August 1st* • Attending practices as of the start of the season (minimum of 3 days as usual) * there are make up days post August 1st- see Coach Ruane Costs: • $59 or $89 4 to a room; add $20 if you want 2 to a room • Includes: Bus, Hotel, Friday Lunch & Dinners, Saturday, Breakfast & Lunch • FLBC paying for $50 per athlete Payment Deadline: • Tonight write check to FLBC, give to Pam Saylor Or send to her via mail by Friday.   12. 8. Parents Volunteer Expectations XC and Track as the largest sport at SMHS • 80+ boys and girls in the fall • 80+ boys and girls in the spring With that size of program and a few coaches, we need and expect parents to help with the program

Sept 8 Panther Inv XC Meet & Nov 3 Region Meet Sept 8 Overview • 10-20 teams • 5 races (2 Varsity, 2 JV, Freshman) • Time: 7-11:30am • Location: Heritage CC Volunteer Needs (~ 45 people) (same for both meets) • Course Set-up the day before: stakes & Flags (5) • Course Marshals- (18) 2 shifts of 9 • Parking- (11) 2 shifts of 6 & 5 • Concessions & Water Table (2-4) • Check-in Packet Pick-up (2-3) • Rabbits (bike)- Sweepers in golf carts (3-5)

Volunteer Needs X-C Season thru Winter • Finishing the Bridge Decking & Railing • Sat 18 or 25 (more details coming) • Ice Transport from SMHS to HCC • Mon-Thursday while its hot (2-4 people) • End of Year Banquet Coordinator + Helpers (2+) • Asst. XC Meet Director • Race Committee for Panther Prowl – January Road Race; • Ensure Flyers get stuffed into key local races • Volunteer coordinator

Team Dinners • Great way for the athletes to get to know their teammates; usually 50 athletes • Either 1-2 nights before the meet; 6-8pm • Host provides home • Co-host proves plates, plastic ware, napkins • Sign up the week to bring food/drink (via Volunteer spot) • Cathy Casado is parent coordinator • Look for an email coming soon to sign up to be a host/co host

Uniforms, Parent Shirts, other Gear • Athlete Uniforms • New Athletes- singlet, short, sweat top, sweat bottom • Order in the Spring- Cost $105 • Uniforms passed out – Tues 8/21 or Wed 8/22 • To exchange for a different size must have the tags • Rain Jackets • Technical difficulties, will pass them when available • Athletic Shoe Bag w/ Starr’s Mill Embroidery • $20 per bag, Due Aug 15 • Write a check to Finish Link Booster Club • Parents Shirts • Highly encouraged- visible support at meets • Black with Columbia Blue imprinting • Moisture wicking; Men and women’s fit • $15 per person, due Aug 15 • Write a check to Finish Link Booster Club • Car Magnet w/ XC Logo • $5, due Aug 15
