Introduction • RCM-Africa is organized around nine thematic clusters • Demand-driven business plans developed from AU/NEPAD priorities • Principal drivers of successful coordination: Sharing of information and readiness to engage • More frequent Cluster meetings and enhanced inter-cluster cooperation • Mainstreaming cross-cutting issues such as gender into Cluster activities

  3. Agriculture, Food Security and Rural Development Cluster (AFSRDC) • 30 countries and one REC have signed CAADP Compact • 24 countries developed CAADP-based National Agriculture and Food Security Investment Plans (NAFSIPs) • USD 430.5 million secured for the implementation of NAFSIPs in 11 countries

Environment, Population and Urbanisation • Regional dialogue on Climate Change Finance (April, 2012) • Implementation of Stockholm Convention and National Implementation Plans in COMESA sub-region • Strengthened capacity of AU/AUC and RECs in Rio+20 processes • Favorable outcome for Africa, reflected in Rio+20 outcome document

  5. Science and Technology • Ninth Meeting of the UN Science and Technology Cluster (August, 2012) • Science journalists’ workshop series and network of science journalists launched by ECA, AUC and UNESCO • African Technology Development and Transfer Network (ATDN) launched by ECA

  6. Industry, Trade and Market Access (ITMA) • ITMA as the face of UN-CEP Inter-Agency Cluster on Trade and Productivity (CEB) in Africa • Reduces duplication and enhances transmission of learning benefits from the global body to RCM-Africa • Functional support to AU Summit (January 2012), leading to development of AU action plan on Continental Free Trade Area Decision • Support to African Trade Policy Forums (November 2011 and September 2012)

  7. Advocacy and Communication • Training of media professionals and NEPAD countries communication officers • RCM Quarterly, a newsletter on intra-Cluster activities • Briefings to African Ambassadors and UN Member States by AU-NPCA CEO at various press conferences • Manual on development reporting to provide common standards and tools for media practitioners on Africa

  8. Infrastructure • Workshops on harmonization of cyber legislation and cyber security  draft AU Convention on Cyber Security, to be adopted at African Heads of State Summit 2013 • Energy sub-cluster developed: • Gender-sensitive bioenergy framework and policy guidelines • Public-private partnership models to finance rural energy infrastructure development

  9. Social and Human Development (SHD) • Aids Watch Africa: outcomes of first meeting have been endorsed by African Heads of State • Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Plan for Africa’s (PMPA) business plan endorsed by African Ministers of Health • Completion of the Cost of Hunger in Africa study (CoHA) • 3rd Pan-African Cultural Congress • Launch of the Pan-African Conference on Teacher Education (PACTED)

  10. Governance Cluster • Support to the implementation of African Human Rights Strategy for Africa • African Governance Platform launched in Zambia by AUC Department of Political Affairs (June 2012) • African Governance Forum (AGF-VIII) held in October 2012 • Mainstreamed gender equality and youth empowerment • Assistance to APRM Secretariat
