  2. Abraham Lincoln Preserved the Union during the Civil War. Renowned as an intelligent and eloquent speaker, Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.

  3. Ulysses S. Grant Commander of the Union army between 1864-1865, became the 18th President of the United States.

  4. William Sherman Union general, led his forces in crushing campaigns through the South, from Georgia to the Carolinas.

  5. George Meade Played a critical role in defeating the Confederate troops in the Battle of Gettysburg.

  6. Ambrose Burnside Commanded troops in several battles, including Antietam and Fredricksburg. Sideburns are named after this general.

  7. George McClellan Led the Army of the Potomac through various campaigns in Virginia.

  8. Jefferson Davis President of the Confederate States of America.

  9. Alexander Stephens Vice-President of the Confederate States.

  10. Robert E. Lee Commanded the powerful and successful Army of Northern Virginia. In 1865, he was given command of all southern armies.

  11. Thomas Jonathan Jackson Earned his nickname “Stonewall” at the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861, where he made a strong stand against the Union army.

  12. Pierre GoustaveToutant Beauregard One of the eight full generals of the Confederacy, bombarding Fort Sumter, fighting in the First Battle of Bull Run and defending Richmond.

  13. Braxton Bragg Led the Tennessee Army in various engagements, including Perryvillle and Chattanooga.
