Blackwood Activity Centre • The City of Mitcham is committed to a Blackwood Activity Centre. • Council is currently considering the preferred location, floor space and funding process to progress this commitment. • Design work and further community consultation will occur once the above is clarified. • The intention is to include a Library and Community Centre focus, offering some additional Council customer services currently not on offer at the existing Blackwood Library. • A further report to Council is due in July on next steps to progress the project.

Current opportunities for Mitcham Hills • An analysis of community facilities located within the Mitcham Hills area of Mitcham Council indicates approximately 12 community centres of varying levels active in the area. • In addition, there are many church organisations, clubs, recreational groups, sporting bodies and schools situated in the area. • Mitcham Council has provided support to most of these facilities at different times through the provision of community grants, services, maintenance and general resourcing. • In the period 2001-2011 Mitcham Council has provided grants totalling $9,239 to the Coromandel Community Centre • Currently 1,646 registered Library borrowers are from the City of Onkaparinga representing 4.4% of the total number of borrowers.

Social Profile - Mitcham Hills residents 2016 Population ProjectionsThe assumptions of fertility (birth rates), mortality (death rates) and migration underpinning the projections are primarily based on historical patterns and trends specific to each area. *Significant expansions projected for these age groups

  7. Future Opportunities • Possible program/activity sharing opportunities (i.e. Mitcham and Onkaparinga), joint funding submissions, and other forms of collaboration are worthy of further investigation and discussion between the two Councils and Coromandel Community Centre. • Investigate opportunities to collaborate with other government and non-government agencies who may be able to provide services from the Centre • Investigate partnerships with educational institutions, community health centres, etc. • Consider providing income-generating space for complementary services, i.e. café, professional offices, business services or government agencies, etc.
