Reading/Language Arts, 6th gradeWritten & Oral English Language Conventions Sentence Structure 1.1 Use simple, compound, and compound-complex sentences; use effective coordination and subordination of ideas to express complete thoughts. Students will write varied sentences to effectively express their thoughts and ideas.
Incomplete Sentences- not a complete thought • Examples of incomplete sentences: The girl is going to. We went to the park on.
Simple Sentences-have a subject (noun or pronoun) and predicate (verb) • Examples of simple sentences: My teacher is smart. We went to the movies.
Compound Sentences- have these coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so(FAN BOYS) Examples of compound sentences: The girl is hungry, andshe is tired. I went to the doctor, butshe didn’t give me a shot.
Complex Sentences-some have these subordinating conjunctions: when, since, because, before, after • Examples of complex sentences Before I run the mile, I always stretch. I receive good gradesbecause I do my homework.
Write these sentences and skip a line. In your table group identify/label each as either incomplete, simple, compound or complex sentences!! Because I received bad grades, I couldn’t go to the dance. Maria is trying to. Peter is dancing. I like the Lakers, and I like the Dodgers.
Write the sentence I ask you to write!! Then you will find 3 people that have different sentences. Write each other’s sentences and label them as simple, incomplete, compound or complex sentences.
