1609.1 Status No change on draft Security review –ongoing at low level Waiting for decisions on IP/SNMP IP/SNMP Survey prepared and issued IEEE 1609.1 Status 2
1609.1 IP/SNMP Assumptions • A WAVE DSRC device will have to contain a 802.11p transceiver • The controller in the device will have to support this transceiver for WAVE. • The security overhead is assumed to be similar whether the device uses WAVE or IP • The overhead of IP/SNMP is only of concern in smaller controllers (i.e. micro-controller or custom devices) 14 Jul 2011 IEEE 1609.1 Status 3 3
1609.1 IP/SNMP Survey • Concerns making IP/SNMP mandatory for remote management are: • Is the support there from controller vendors for 802.11, IP and SNMP today? • Is the support limited to certain (word-size) devices? • What is memory increase for support? • What is added latency/clock requirement for support? • Limiting assessment to micro-controllers • Unable to generally assess custom devices (e.g. device implemented in ASIC) 14 Jul 2011 IEEE 1609.1 Status 4 4
1609.1 Survey Status • Questionnaire prepared for Micro-controller manufacturers to get data • 5 micro-controller manufacturers so far have been contacted • Anticipate responses in next month. • Will produce report to WG in September. 14 Jul 2011 IEEE 1609.1 Status 5 5
1609.1 Other • 1609.1 changes may also be driven by: • NEMA / NTCIP • Will be following up from Wednesday’s presentation • ISO WG work • Who is the contact for this and what is the work status? • May need to be another forum at application level to get broader requirements 14 Jul 2011 IEEE 1609.1 Status 6 6
