Objectives • Independent research project: Brazil-Mozambique cooperation around HIV/AIDS • Africare internship
Context • Research group: The Future of Global AIDS Treatment and the Social Determinants of Health • Field Site: Maputo, Mozambique
Research • Goal: Investigate cooperation between Brazil and Mozambique around HIV/AIDS care and treatment • Methods: series of interviews with public health officials working in Brazilian NGOs, Mozambican government and US foreign service. • Within internship: Use Monitoring & Evaluation systems as an entry-point to inform critique of US and other international aid delivery practices
Brazil-Mozambique Cooperation • What partnerships are being established? • What projects are being undertaken? • Results of these efforts? • Motivations? Visit to pharmaceutical factory funded by Brazilian corporation
Measuring Mozambique • How and where do numbers travel? Who collects them? For what purpose? • Communication channels and feedback loops within and outside organizations? • Ways the motivations, levels of training and resource/time constraints influence outcomes
