The Workshops are a Joint Effort • Alabama State Department of Education – Pupil Transportation Division (ALSDE) • Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition (ACFC) • United Soybean Board and Alabama Soybean Association (USB) • Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA)
Purpose of the Workshops • Provide an overview of biodiesel • Explain the possible benefits of B20 biodiesel when used in school bus fleets • Outline the steps that school systems must take if interested in implementing program • Explain the ADECA grant available for the cleaning of existing diesel tanks • Answer your questions

Biodiesel • Made from soybean oil, and other agricultural products also from used cooking oil & animal fats • Projected Alabama production capacity is 100+ million gallons from our 4 existing plants! • Usually Blended – B20 (20% Biodiesel, 80% Petroleum Diesel) • No engine modifications required to use • $0.50 to $1.00/gallon rebate currently available to blender

Birmingham’s 600 Diesel Vehicles use B20 Soy Biodiesel On May 9th, 2007 Mayor Kincaid announced move to biodiesel in City’s 600 Vehicle Diesel Fleet including fire and rescue vehicles.

ACFC PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES I-65 Clean Corridor DOE Grant • 6 E85 & 5 Bio Diesel Public Access refueling stations • First Grants announced by Gov. Riley on Oct 31st • Stations to begin opening in March 2008

Riley Announced First Round of Grants for I-65 Clean Corridor • First Round: • Athens – E85 & B20 • Cullman - E85 & B20 • Birmingham - E85 & B20 • Mobile - E85 & B20 • Montgomery – B20 • Second Round: • Brewton – E85 & B20 • Prattville – E85 & B20 Stations began opening in March 2008 – Anticipate completion by September 2008

June Biodiesel Workshops(Week of 6/23) • 2 Hour Educational Workshops • 5 locations around State • FREE • Present the Why and How to implement using soy biodiesel in their School Districts

What You Can Do? • If you haven’t already please respond to brief survey about your system that was sent out in May by Joe Lightsey • If you plan to implement biodiesel in your system use the resources of ALSDE , ACFC, ADECA to help you make an easy and beneficial transition to cleaner burning biodiesel
Steps for Successful Implementation • You’re taking the first step by attending this Workshop • Make recommendation to your Superintendent for consideration to use biodiesel in your fleet • If your Superintendent agrees - notify Joe Lightsey at ALSDE. • Joe will advise me of your interest and the “team effort” will begin • If needed, make application to ADECA for one of the twenty $2,500 tank cleaning grants available
