  2. Where we worked: • Reached 3500 Farmers in all over northern areas.   3. WHAT THE FLOODS DID? Heavy rains, flash flooding and subsequent landslides in Gilgit Baltistan, cause unprecedented damage. • 183 lives lost. • 82,000 people displaced . • 342 villages ravaged. • 71,885 Kanals of land (including agricultural land) destroyed. Infrastructure Shaken. • 947km of road, 182 bridges , 3157 Houses 83 Schools and 3 Hospitals damaged. Challenge : Gilgit-Baltistan’s nascent political status, remoteness and poor accessibility, lack of capacity and expertise to handle disasters

HOW WE MOVED FORWARD • For the distribution of seed in GB • The Agriculture Ministry was asked for a needs assessment • Formal discussion with Agriculture Department (February) • Action Plan formulated( mid February) • Retrieved the unutilized seed stock from Sindh & Baluchistan for GB ( February 18) • 4051 Seed bags delivered in Gilgit (March 3).

How the target was Achieved • Monitoring of all distribution points by IKF team. • The distribution process was conducted one district at a time. • 23 out of 26 distribution points in all of Gilgit-Baltistan covered by IKF • Mobilized Field support from Karakoram International University student/faculty team. • Local Support Organization, for the assessment, compilation of beneficiary setup of distribution points

WHAT PARTNERS SAY: • Government: “Never before has such a program been implemented in Gilgit-Baltistan.” – Director of Agriculture Gilgit-Baltistan, Sher Jahan, in a statement published in K2 Newspaper • LSO Farmers: “Dil bauhat hi khush hooah sab zamindaraan kaa, Aaj beej jo millah hai, Sahib Imran Khan kaa, Dil bauhat khush hooah sab zamindaraan kaa, Aaj Gundham jo millah hai.” LSO Activist and Farmer in Skardu, Haji Mohammad Firdausi. • “Behtereen tarike se saamaan taqseem kia, jis tarhaan aap ne imdaad deah hai, kissi ne itne insaaf se naheen kia iss se pehle.” – Mubarak Khan, Aid recipient from Khinar Valley, Daimer.
