Idaho Technical Literacy Advisory Group • Task Force for Improving Education • Recommendations released September 6, 2013 • Literacy recommendation was a part of the Structural Change Subcommittee Report • Goal of structural change strategies is for Idaho to have a uniform and high-performing public K-12 education system, as measured by the State Board of Education (SBOE) • Goal is for 60% of people entering the workforce to have some post-secondary degree or certificateby 2020
Literacy Proficiency –A High Expectations Strategy “We recommend students demonstrate mastery of literacy before moving on to significant content learning. Reading proficiency is a major benchmark in a student’s education. Students must learn to read before they can read to learn content in other subject areas.”
This Committee Will….. • Review existing legislation • Send recommendations and rationale to State Board • Make redline edits to the existing Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Act to incorporate those recommendations within statute
