Introduction BANG! CLANG! BOOM! WOW! Imagine you’re in the middle of a big fun Chinese festival. But that is one of the many festivals. There is the ice and snow festival. There also is the dragon boat festival. Those are two main Chinese festivals.
The Dragon Boat Do you know how the Dragon boat festival started? Well, the Dragon boat festival started, when a great poet drowned into the water. The Chinese made the festival because they were sad that the great poet drowned. And did you know the Chinese throws rice and bamboo in the water during the festival.
Ice and Snow In northern China there is the ice and snow festival. It is freezing there. So the northern Chinese wanted to celebrate the cold, by making the ice and snow festival. They realized the ice and snow festival also gave northern Chinese a break from work. And did you know during the ice and snow festival you can swim with the Chinese pink dolphins.
Ice Everywhere! The exciting grand festival opening comes in January 5th. The festival usually lasts until January 28th. That’s 23 days. It is 34 degrees outside. I would be shaking really hard in that temperature. The festival originated in Harbins traditional ice lantern show and garden party takes place in winter. There are sculptures 50 meters (160 feet) tall made out of ice! They even have ice slides!
Racing dragon Boats The Dragon Boat Festival is known as the Duanwu festival. I think that’s pretty unusual name. People race on dragon boats. The boat is colorful and shaped like a dragon. On a dragon boat are 80 rowers to power the boat. That must be a fast boat. There’s games such as making egg stands to prevent, evil, while promoting good health. It's marked as a cultural holiday.
Conclusion There are many interesting festivals you see. China is a very festive country. The Dragon Boat festival and the Ice Festival are the opposites of each other. These are seasonal holidays. The Ice Festival is a winter holiday and the Dragon boat festival is a summer holiday. There is always more to learn about Chinese festivals.
