As your child starts to have teeth, the fun and scary part of being a mother begins. Once your baby shows off her/his first teeth you should bring him/her to a dentist for her/his first appointment.
Parents should take this as a mandatory to ensure that their child can maintain healthy teeth as they grow up. If you are afraid of how your child will react on her first time dental appointment, you should prepare yourself and your baby by simply following these tips:
Tip #1 Make an Early Visit. Before your child’s appointment, first-time dental appointment arrives you should contact the dental office ahead of time to request a tour of the facility. By doing so, you and your child will be able to meet the whole staff, crew, and the friendly dentist. As the big day come, you child will be more comfortable with the surrounding.
Tip #2 Find time to ask Questions you’re dreading to ask. You should directly ask the dentist or the staff with your unanswered questions to relieve your fears and anxiety as your child goes through his/her first dental checkup. You should not be ashamed to ask because answering your questions as the mother is part of their job being a dental practitioner.
Tip #3 Staying Positive at all times will help both of you during the appointment. Before your child’s appointment, you should discuss the procedure with your child in a gentle manner and avoid using words that could freak him/her out like word needle, drill, inject and much more. Besides you can be creative by reading books about going to the dentist.
Tip #4 Make sure to arrive at the appointment earlier. You must remember that it is your child’s first-time dental appointment so everyone should be calm so to prevent stress, you should go to the dentist earlier so that you are able to give yourself and your child a chance to enjoy the whole dental experience.
Tip #5 Allow your child to bring a toy from home. If ever your child has a favorite bear, blanket or toy you should let them bring it inside as they seat on the dentist chair. By doing so, they will feel more comfortable as they go through a new procedure and they will definitely not feel that they are alone as you sit outside and wait. Now that you already know what to do during your child’s first-time dental appointment, share your knowledge to your friends and family so that like you, they can experience a seamless dental experience.
