Tribal Climate Engagement • Attend American Indian / Alaska Native Climate Change Working Group meetings • Organize National Climate Assessment authors to co-lead discussions at the Native Peoples Native Homelands Conference • Training and immersion opportunities; leading to future collaborations • Hosted meeting at request of the Oglala Lakota to focus efforts on mitigation planning • Organized tribal climate community members to draft a comprehensive community planning guide
Impact-Based Warnings • Demonstration project in 2012 • Focused on improved communication of risk so that decision makers have better information from which to work • Use of “tags” within the warnings make key information easier to find and enhance Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) messages
Integrated Warning Team Workshops • Goal is to foster better teamwork amongst emergency managers, broadcast meteorologists, and NWS during high-impact weather and water events • NOAA Central Region sponsors 2 workshops a year across the region • Locations where workshops have been held: • Kansas City (2009) • Omaha, NE (2009) • Wichita, KS (2010) • Cedar Rapids, IA (2010) • Grand Forks, ND (2011) • Indianapolis (2011) • Lansing, MI (2012*) • Colorado Springs (2012)
Space Weather Outreach • Increase space weather awareness • Address specific sectors and the issues/concerns that each encounter. Modules will contain: • Type, frequency and duration of events • Impacts • Products and services available • FAQs • Where to find more info
Sea Grant Partnership Joint project between Central Region and Great Lakes teams Collaboration between Sea Grant and NOAA lines towards Weather-Ready Nation goal Surveys conducted summer 2012 NWS presentation to Great Lakes Sea Grant meeting in October Sea Grant presentations to NWS WCMs early 2013 Joint Project execution in FY13
