Degraded Fail-Safe Mode(DFSM) • Feature available for European Systems Only • Provides microphone capability to all amplifiers in the event of an audio system failure (or CPU failure) • Uses existing Master Microphone • Designed to meet BS5839 • Non-communicating card (no software) 4100U Release 11.08

DFSM – How it works • Master • Keyswitch (B-key) enables DFSM Mode • Master Microphone is then “routed” to the DFSM card (will cause trouble on Audio Controller) • DFSM card places amplified microphone signal on PDI channel 2 and out DFSM Riser • VOX input on new amplifiers (discussed later), which is at highest priority, senses audio on PDI channel 2 (AMPAUX) and routes signal • Troubles for slave wiring (NAC), power stage, switch wiring are reported through the supervised IAM (must be programmed in job) • Slave • DFSM signal from DFSM Master is detected • Signal is routed to PDI Channel 2 • VOX input on new amplifiers, which is set at highest priority, senses audio on PDI channel 2 and routes signal • Trouble for power stage is reported through the supervised IAM (must be programmed in job) 4100U Release 11.08

Synchronized Digital Audio with Local Audio Support • No custom control required for general alarm operation, although lists and points will need to be manipulated • DARIC and DAC control direction of DAR flow for each node (Enhanced DAR routing) • VCC- From DAC through DARIC to remote boxes • Remote nodes - from VCC DAC through DARIC, local DAC uses remote DAR received from DARIC to drive it’s miniplex riser • No riser amplifier required • Global paging supported from VCC • Local Paging supported at remote nodes • Remote nodes support local audio backup 4100U Release 11.08
Synchronized Digital Audio with Local Audio Support • Normal Mode • VCC generates network DAR stream and controls all audio points in the system • Remote Nodes receive network DAR and use this to drive their own miniplexes (through their local DAC) • Exception – If local paging is activated, the remote node using the paging feature will switch to it’s own local DAC’s DAR (custom control required for this operation) • Degraded Mode (Assume DAR stream from VCC is bad) • IF the node still has network communication • A remote node which lost the audio stream switch to their local DAC’s DAR (must contain the same message set) and drive it’s local PDI / Riser and turn the DARIC PDI drive off • IF the node has lost network communication with the VCC • Remote Node controls it’s own points and switches to it’s local DAC’s DAR stream and continues operation based on it’s local inputs. 4100U Release 11.08

Synchronized Digital Audio with Full Mode Local Audio • Custom control required at each node that can generate network DAR, lists and points will need to be manipulated at all nodes • DARIC and DAC control direction of DAR flow (Enhanced DAR Routing) • From DAC through DARIC to remote boxes (when node is generating) • From remote boxes through DARIC through DAC (when node is receiving) • No riser amplifier required • Global paging supported from any node that is capable of generating network DAR • Local Paging supported from remote Nodes with a DAC • Remote nodes can either be of local backup type or Full Mode Local Network Backup type 4100U Release 11.08
Synchronized Digital Audio with Full Mode Local Audio Support Operation Example • Normal Mode • VCC generates network DAR stream and controls all audio points in the system • Remote nodes receive network DAR and use this to drive their own miniplexes (through the DAC) • Exception – If local paging is activated, the remote node using the paging feature will switch to it’s own local DAC’s DAR (custom control required for this operation) • Exception – If global paging is activated at a remote node, the remote node will generate the network DAR for all other remote nodes and the VCC to use (the VCC will switch direction of DAR flow to receive on it’s DARIC and DAC). • Degraded Mode (Assume DAR stream from VCC is bad) • IF the node still has network communication • The next node in line that has the capability to generate network DAR will switch DAC and DARIC direction to send (must contain the same message set as VCC) and continue to play audio, this DAR will also be driven out onto the network riser to be received by remote nodes. • IF the node has lost network communication with the VCC • Remote Node controls it’s own points (and possibly system points – heavy custom control here), switches to it’s local DAC’s DAR stream, routes this stream out of it’s DARIC and continues operation based on it’s local inputs. Other nodes may or may not use this DAR stream, depending on custom control 4100U Release 11.08

Support for Non-Alarm Paging and Music • NFPA allows music to be played by a fire alarm system if the system monitoring still works (classified as combination systems). • 4100+ and 4100U pre-11.08 systems do not supervise speaker circuits and amplifiers when the NACs are on. • New hardware supervises with the NACs on or off – called “Constant Supervision” • Speaker circuits still not supervised during alarm signaling 4100U Release 11.08

Amplifier Changes to support Constant Supervision • New 100W and Flex-Amplifiers • Adds 20kHz ‘silent’ tone generator to supervise the power stage when no input signal is present • Adds VOX (voice controlled switch) to automatically turn the CS-NACs on when a signal is present • Flex-Amp now has Mezzanine card, containing the VOX and routing switches • Inputs automatically overridden in the event of an alarm • Non-alarm audio disabled during battery operation 4100U Release 11.08
