  2. Family Curricular Make and Take Events Roy School Bull’s-eye view on TEACHINGand LEARNING • This proposed supplemental program will be used to foster a deeper sense of teaching and learning academics and social skills as the Roy School motto states.

  3. Vision for the Venue • The venue for Family Curricular Make and Take events will be at the Roy School cafeteria and it will include Roy School teachers leading the events.

  4. Vision for the Materials • Family Curricular Make and Take events will use an ample amount of colorful and rich materials full of information like: pictures, stories, books, magazines, Internet, computers, technology (I-pads, Digital Cameras, Flip video cameras), rich dialogue, and hands on crafts and materials.

  5. Roy School’s Vision Statement • The Roy School Vision Statement is: “The Roy School Community ensures a positive and safe environment where each child becomes a lifelong learner.”

  6. Strategies for including school-wide stakeholders • All stakeholders will be included in this program. • The parents, students, school community members, district leaders, and local businesses will all be welcome to help make this program successful. • The program leader will make phone calls, send flyers and invitations, as well as display posters to increase interest

  7. Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices • The following culturally responsive teaching practices will be used throughout the program: • Build on students’ knowledge of their own cultural background • Introduce students to new cultures and their traditions • Teach students to appreciate both similarities and differences between their culture and others

  8. How ELL’sglobal perspective be increased by usingculturally responsive teaching? • Culturally responsive teaching will increase an ELL’s global perspective because there will be a deeper understanding of all the cultures present in the school. • All children will be able to interact in a fun, non-threatening setting.

  9. Parent and Community Involvement Strategies • Parental and community involvement is needed to help children feel safe in school. Addressing social emotional needs will elevate their academic abilities. • Administration needs to learn the views and roles that education may play in relation to their culture. • Community members who play an active part in the area will be invited to be a part of these events to strengthen the bond. • Cultural disparities in the school can be addressed with this program known as: Family Curricular Make and Take events. • These proposed curricular nights will help parents become empowered and to invite them into the school to get to know staff members. • Parents to feel comfortable reaching out to staff members and proud of the help they can give their children at home.

  10. Calendar for the Program This is the calendar for the 2013-2014 Family Curricular Make and Take events at Roy School. The program will be on: the first Thursday night of the month so parents can remember the date and we will meet at Roy School student cafeteria from 6:30-7:30 p.m. September 5 February 6 October 3 March 6 November 7 April 3 December 5 May 1 January 9
