What is Resilience? Resilience management is an evolutionary change phase for continuity in Business. Its importance is very high with regard to IT organizations. Resilience is primarily the resulting capability of a company to predict and react to risks that affect their tasks and projects. It also includes the ability of the company to adapt quickly to dynamic and complex circumstances when conditions are very uncertain. Following Six Principles Can Be Applied For Business Continuity:
1) Focus on Threats: Stop focusing on check box compliance. The prime focus should always be on risk managementorienteddecisions.Yourpriorityshouldbetheidentificationofthreatand exploring of ways to eliminate that threat. Compliance has a lot of security but risks are always there. Thus the environment is never fully protected. A risk management based thinking is thus required. 2) Protect Not Only Infrastructures, But Also Business Results: The current IT infrastructural facilities are not sufficient, but you must protect it. The focus should be the protection of the performance of the company. The dependency of the business on IT assets should be moulded in such a way that it fulfills the need of risk and IT resilience management. Business outcomes should be protected. 3) Be a Facilitator: You shouldfocusonbeingafacilitator.Ifthereisaproblem, youshouldbetheretohelp it, instead of defending the cause. The main goal is to obtain results and just to defend against problems. Being a facilitator also motivates the co-workers in doing so. A chain of facilitators canthusbe established.
4) Focus on The Circulation of Information In Your Surrounding: 4) Focus on The Circulation of Information In Your Surrounding: For resilience management, the priority should always be to understand the flow of information. Stop trying to control information. Instead, determine and track its passage. The best understanding of data circulation decides the distribution of responsibilities on data backup. This helps in information protection and maintaining its confidentiality and integrity. 5) Human Is The Master: Accept the fact that People, andnottechnologyareatthetopofthechain.Theassisting value of technology is limited and very specific. It cannot go out of its way to be an asset. People are the strongest asset. Motivate your workforce and put emphasis on trust, accountability and responsibility. When people are motivated, they give their best. Technology can also not be held accountable for any discrepancies caused. Thus, you should be people centric. 6) Focus on Discovery and Then Respond: Accept that accidents happen. No organization is fool proof. The chief factor for Resilience management of organizations is the speed at which response is given to these incidents. The cycle works in the following manner: Detect>Respond>Prevent. Thus you should be quick enough in identifying the incident, get a working response ready and implement a preventive mechanism. People and technology, both should be involved in this setting of detection. 100% protection does not exist and thus youshouldbereadyforincidentstohappen.Thegoal is to quickly identify it and respond to it. Finally, an effective prevention can be set up.
