  4. High Courts Opinion • In every case after it the judge could say that a black man or woman is not free because of Dred Scott v. Sanford • There are no other cases involving slavery that are recorded, but the Dred Scott case was overturned because of the 13th and 14th amendment. • Section 1 and 2 of the 13th amendment; neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime, shall exist within the US, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
