Diploma Verification Are you graduating? • 80 credits • 16 credits at grade 12 level • All boxes checked • Numeracy Exam: those who have not written will do so in January Problems to look for: • 0 credits for a course • Missing online course or summer school course • Repeat courses (ex. Art 11 twice)
Stress Management How does your mind/body/feelings react during stressful times? Examples: • Pounding heart • Sweating • Headache • Unable to focus • Can’t sleep • Might feel powerless, sad, afraid • Short temper
Thinking Traps Certain types of thinking can lead to anxiety. • Black or White Thinking: argument with friend – “nobody likes me” • Catastrophizing: C- on a test – “I’m not getting into university” • Overestimating: “I have diabetes – if I run I might die” • Fortune Telling: “If I go to this party no one will talk to me” • Overgeneralizing: “I always screw things up” (always/never) • Mind Reading: “She hates me.” • Labeling: “I’m stupid” • Filtering: only focusing on the bad things
Avoiding Stress What strategies can you use to minimize stress: Examples: • exercise • nutrition • Avoid procrastination
Calming Stress If stress does get elevated, how can you calm it down? Examples: • Bubble bath • Yoga • Meditation • Deep breathing • Music
