Introducing… 2006-2007 Nowata Public Schools Fall 2006 Back to School Workshop
Change is difficult for us all The beginning of each year is stressful and we often feel like Mr. Kitty. This presentation is to help give you a brief overview of the new requirements and personnel.
The Times, They Are A Changin’ • SEAs • Staff • Communication • Parent Contact
Special Education Automated SystemSEAS • Official computerized IEP program for the state of Oklahoma • Must be used for all state reporting • Electronic file that mirrors child’s special education file • All IEPs must be typed using the SEAs program • Random monitoring will be performed during the 2006-2007 school year
The SEAs 411 • Student information must be complete on every child • Student Id numbers must be his or her WAVE number. These are available from the building secretary. • Entry/Exit dates must be current • All discipline referrals will be entered into SEAS (see your building principal)
New Faces on Staff • Terri is a new paraprofessional who will be working with Mrs. G. in the MS and HS life skills class • Angela is the paraprofessional who will be at the elementary school
Bus Schedules • Who’s Driving • We need a driver for the handicap bus/car…who will volunteer • Who’s Riding • A paraprofessional will need to ride the an elementary child…who wants it • Bus Subs • Sometimes people need to be gone, can you cover them???
Student Assignments • Please be thinking about who will primarily work with each of your students in need of one-on-one assistance. • I need your schedules and personnel assignments by the end of week one. I know they will change, but we need a foundation to start.
Close Encounters with the Director • A lot of communication from the special ed office will occur via e-mail for the 2006-2007 school year • A working e-mail account that is checked at least every other day must be provided by August 17th. • The easiest way to get a message to me is Instant Messaging or e-mail rather than by the office phone. You can also use my cell especially in an emergency.
Close Encounters of the Parental Kind • All teachers must contact their students’ parents or guardians within the first week of school
Parent contacts continued… • Things to talk about when you make the call • Introduce yourself as the teacher for the new school year • Get the parents’ input for the child’s educational plan • Ask about the child’s likes and dislikes’ • Remember --many parents are the best experts on working with their child and a valuable member of the IEP and Educational team
Finally… This power point is in place of the beginning of the year meeting we all love so much. I am not saying there will not be more to come, but maybe it will be delayed until later.
