  3. Participation Rates Continued • 10 of the last 20 are in WA • 5 of those 10 are in Perth • 2 of those 5 are in our direct catchment

  8. High School Interactions • Need to change community culture • Need to convince high school students that University is not beyond them • Trial in 2001 of allowing high school students to undertake one University unit (subject)

Foundation Unit Trial • Unique nature of foundation units at Murdoch • 44 high school students undertook unit, blended with all other University students (230 in total) • Results: • 7 Distinctions 28 Credit • 5 Pass 3 Conceded Pass • 1 Fail • Results: • 40 indicate they are University bound • 6 Rockingham, 18 Murdoch 1st preferences (55% overall) • Extended next year to Mandurah as well as Rockingham

  10. Structured Workplace Learning • 8 month work-placement • Classroom strategies integrated with productive work experience • Work related to student’s academic and career goals • Formal recognition as part of university study (and HECS free) • Partnership between students, university and employers
