Project Purpose • Address concerns in the community about toxic air emissions and also reports of creosote odors and emissions continuing to occur from the old Kerr-McGee plant site. • Until 2003, the Kerr McGee Chemical Corporation used creosote and creosote tar solutions or pentachlorophenol to make pressure treated wood products. Contamination was later discovered in sediment samples from off-site drainage ditches and in soil samples from private residences.

VOC Sampling • 60 VOCs started being monitored in January 2013 • 1 in 6 days – 24 hour samples • The VOC sites are the Kerr-McGee site and the Stokes-Beard Elementary School Site. • Sanderson Plumbing is a toilet site and custom molding manufacturer where its HAPS are emitted from surface coating operations. • Columbus Brick uses natural gas-fired dryers and kilns. The HAPs are emitted from the actual drying of the bricks.
SVOC Sampling • A separate sampler is used to collect SVOC samples at the Kerr-McGee property. • 22 SVOCs started being monitored in April 2013 and will operate for a period of three months. The monitor will then be moved to another location on the property and operated for three months. • 1 in 6 days – 24 hour samples
