Vision 2050 • Demographics • A mere 1% increase in population per year • India will overtake China (1.9 vs. 1.6 billion)‏ • Migration to cities will be curbed • Mega-cities = 30-50 million • Lifestyle and Values • Defined by sociability and exploration • Holism will be practiced (nature, mind & body)‏ • Education • Teaching will be virtual, (5 year BS, 3 year MS)‏ • Libraries electronic, corporations as colleges

  3. Vision 2050 • Entertainment • Satellite digital radio and TV • Shopping • Virtual = close physical locations • Technology • Genetic engineering: food production/disease • Info techn: Individualized Computer Unit! • Space: human colonies on moon and Mars • Emerging: molecular nanotechnology

Tourism in the year 2050 • Increases in standard of living = • Developing countries are big players (India)‏ • Tourism by far #1 industry (for real)‏ • Attractions • Space tourism, underwater resorts, sub cruises, specialized resort (disabilities), etc • Areas of expansion • Pharmacological destinations, adventure travel, fragile sites = reservation only, weekend int. travel

A Vision of Tourism • Transportation • Rocket & supersonic travel, moving sidewalks, mega cruise ships (10,000)‏ • Expansion of: • Magnetic trains, battery engines, no driving zone inner-city, airports = entertainment destinations, single contractor for ticketing, luggage centers • Hospitality/Tourism Industry • Luxury Hotels vs. Morgue-like hotels • Themed hotels, hotels on moon/Mars, sustainable codes (enforced), passports/visas thru ICU’s

Hotels in 2050 • Hotel Management • Paperless purchasing (thru ICU’s)‏ • Instantly download customer info • Surveys, preferences, etc. • Robotics for maids, etc. • Keyless doors and security with ICU’s • Human Resources • Pay/conditions much better = a Resource! I.T. = improve quality of life, not wage wars!

  7. The Non-Stop City • Urban Growth • Population (cities w/ 50 million people)‏ • Increased crime, poverty, stress, etc. • Solution? • Time as a resource • A 24 hour economy

  8. The Non-stop City • Europe closes at night, US awakes • 3 or 4 work shifts per day! • Businesses & school = 24/7 (Walmart)‏ • Timeshare desks and housing! • Recreation, etc. at nite (removal of blue laws)‏ • Other solutions • 8 day week (3 weekend days) “Earthday” • Global Time (internet)‏
