  1. La Hipótesis de la Expansion del FondoOceánico

  5. Section Review • What observations support the continental drift hypothesis? • Shapes of continental coastlines, fossil distribution, climate change evidence, distinctive rock formations.

  6. Section Review • What evidence in support of plate tectonics is provided by studies of the ocean floor? • Shapes of continental coastlines, fossil distribution, climate change evidence, distinctive rock formations.

  7. Section Review • Explain how the theory of plate tectonics differs from the continental drift hypothesis? • Wegener could not explain how the continents move. The theory of plate tectonics states that continents and ocean basins move as the lithospheric plates move.

  8. Section Review • What would you expect to find if you measured the temperature of the rocks on the ocean floor at various distances from the mid-ocean ridge? • Temperature would decrease with distance from the ridge axis because as newly formed oceanic crust is moves farther from the ridge, it cools.
