  2. When you enter the classroom, look over your latitude and longitude worksheets. Make sure you understand and are prepared for your quiz.

  3. When you finish your quiz, put it in the class’s box. Then, read silently in your comfortable spot. I will begin today’s small group when everyone in the group has finished the quiz.

  4. ADVENTURE

  6. Use the dictionary entries to help you and your partner discuss some adventure-themed vocabulary. Discuss the questions in detail and jot your thoughts on your worksheet.

  7. “Extreme Teens” Read the article silently to yourself. Annotate the text! This means to show your thinking on the page. Mark words that you do not know, information that shocks or surprises you, or something that you can connect to your own life or something else that you know. Mark areas where you are confused. Use context clues to figure out the meanings of the underlined words, and show your thinking in the margin.

  8. Second Draft Reading • Read the text again. • This time your purpose is to “chunk” the text. • The original article had three headings. Where do you think they should go? What should they be called? Why?

  9. Save the Last Word for Me Answer the question on your paper. It is your responsibility to lead a small group discussion using your question. Ask the question. Let your classmates respond. The LAST WORD is saved for you!
