French Education • Ecole (Early school) • Collèges (middle school) Age 11 to 15. • Lycées (high school), Ages of 15 and 18. Prepared for the Le bac (baccalaureate). Le bac can lead to higher education studies
French degrees • LMD system Licence-Master-Doctorant Bachelor's-Master's-Doctorate • This system standardizes the levels and organizes recognition of the degrees in the different countries. • It makes educational mobility easier in Europe and elsewhere.
French degrees • LMD degrees are obtained completing a certain number of semesters. • Each semester awards up to 30 ECTS (European Credits Transfer System) credits • ECTS can be transferred to other countries.
Bachelor Programmes • Bachelor's (Licence) 3 years 6 semesters 180 ECTS credits.
Master Programmes • Masters One/ Two years Masters (M1,M2) 4 semesters 120 ECTS credits.
Doctorate • Doctorate (Doctorant) Total of 480 ECTS credits from the first year of the Bachelor's program. Total 8 years ,16 semesters
Degrees Recognition • French higher education diploma is guaranteed by the State • Certified French Ministry of Education ("diplôme visé") or titles registered on the RNCP (French Directory of Professional Certifications). • Various "Grandes Ecoles“ certified by independent organisations issuing accreditations or labels.
Degrees Recognition • Each institute defines its own admission criteria • Only the host institute is authorized to accept or refuse an applicant. • Mutual agreements to recognize degrees may nonetheless make requests for equivalence easier.
Attestation/ Equivalence • The ENIC-NARIC centre may provide an attestation certifying to the French value of a degree obtained from a foreign educational system. The procedure costs 70 Euros per request. • The ENIC-NARIC European network also lets you certify the value for your country of the years you spent studying in France.
French Language Requirement • French is not required if program offered is in English • For courses in French, foreign students must present a document attesting to their level of French. • You can obtain one by sitting an official French exam or test, such as DELF, DALF, TCF or TEF.
French Language Requirement • Level B1 or B2 is recommended for studying at the undergraduate and Master's level • Some may require a higher level C1 or C2, for specific program.
