Student Teacher Exit Survey: Improving Teacher Preparation Programs

This study outlines the design and implementation of an Exit Survey for student teachers, required by the Higher Education Act to assess teacher preparation programs. Starting in 2006, this survey evaluates candidates' self-assessment on performance standards, aiming to enhance curriculum development, program evaluation, and identification of underperforming programs. The initiative involves a collaborative effort among public and private institutions, drawing insights from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University. The survey, with 37 questions covering preparedness levels and free-response sections, underwent a successful pilot phase in 2005. The collected data supports future improvements in teacher education, guiding the enhancement of teacher training programs through evaluation and analysis.
