What is Voice over IP (VoIP). • VoIP– is a technology that allows telephone calls between two telephone exchanges to be carried over an IT network. • IP Telephony – is a technology that allows telephone calls between two phones to be carried over an IT network. • Both are generally known as VoIP
Infrastructure. • Philips telephone exchange is over 20yrs old. • Require expensive BT links. • Expensive to maintain. • Small feature set (no voicemail, etc) AU Telephone Network

VoIP phones • 4 types currently in use: • 7911– standard analogue replacement phone. • 1 telephone line. • 7941/7942, 7961/7962, Softphone. • 2, 6+ telephone lines. • 2 way speaker phone. • Graphical display. • All offer at least 4 soft key buttons.
