What is the MBAA? • Two distinct roles: • Traditional student government • Represent student interests to administration • Vote on matters effecting entire student body • Governing board for all clubs “corporate” • Allocate and manage finances for all clubs • Hold club leadership to accountability standards • Set and communicate organizational strategy
Our Roles President • Ultimate responsibility for strategy of MBAA • Ultimate Responsibility for outward facing MBAA communication: • Administration, Alumni, Community, Duke University, Media, Prospective Students • Responsibility for FY Section Representatives • Responsibility for evaluating Vice-President • Final arbiter on matters of MBAA authority
Our Roles Vice-President • Ultimate responsibility for oversight of leadership and programming of all MBAA clubs • Ultimate responsibility for inward facing MBAA communication: • Cabinet, Clubs, Student Body • Responsibility for management of MBAA cabinet • Responsibility for cabinet evaluations
Our Roles Shared • Responsibility for managing MBAA financial matters (in coordination with Treasurer) • Responsibility for developing accountability and evaluation standards for all clubs (in coordination with the Executive Officer & Treasurer) • Responsibility for conducting and facilitating weekly meetings
Time Commitment • Time commitment • Weekly meeting with the MBAA cabinet (1 hour) • Weekly meetings with Deans (1-1.5 hours) • Additional 10-30 hours per week • Some weeks (orientation for example), demand large time commitment
Process • President and Vice-President run on one ticket • Any FY student is allowed to run for either position • Allowed one page platform • President and Vice-Presidential candidates will give a 5-10 minute speech together with 5 minute audience Q & A • Speeches are open to all FYs • Speeches will be taped to provide online viewing • A designated area will be set aside in the Winter Garden for candidates to answer additional questions during Fuqua Friday
Election Timeline Monday, January 21 MBAA election info session #2 Tuesday, January 29 Platforms due to Andrea Pawliczek (acp20@duke.edu) by 5 pm (Note: platforms will also be posted in the Fuqua Times) Wednesday, January 30 Platforms posted in the mallway Friday, February 8 President/VP Speeches 3:30 pm – Geneen Q&A at Fuqua Friday 5:00 pm Polls open at 5:00 pm Tuesday, February 12 Polls close at 5:00 pm Results announced 6:00 pm Wednesday, Feb 13- Fri, Feb 22 Executive Officer selection Results announced 7:00 pm Sat, Feb 23 – March 16th Extended cabinet selection Monday, March 17th 1st day of new MBAA
