  2. Our Schedule Lunch: 11:15-11:45 Library: Thursday Computer Lab: Thursday PE: Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Friday (wear tennis shoes) Music/Art: Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday

  3. Information • Newsflashes This will be one of the main ways that I will be communicating with you. • Snacks Please make sure snack is a quick treat. *something they can eat with their fingers (no fruit cups or yogurt) *send water only with a sport top

  4. Consequences & Rewards • Behavior Calendar Every day your child will start off with an E (Excellent) If a student chooses to break a rule they will receive a mark in their blue folder (this is after two warnings): • No Marks = E • 1 Mark = S • 2 Marks = N • 3+ Marks = U Students will receive a daily grade (E,S,N,) that will be averaged at the end of the week. The weekly grades will then be averaged for the final conduct grade on the report card. • Daily binder will be sent home every day marked with any concerning behavior for the day. It will be left blank if they had a super day! Having their binder every day is important.

  5. Homework • Daily Binder: it is sent home everyday. It needs to be initialed every night and returned every day. • Homework: homework calendar is located in the binder. This is a way for you to review and extend your child’s learning at home. The topics on the calendar are the same topics that we will be covering in class. • Reading Book and Log: this will be located in the daily binder. We will be sending home books a few times each week as a way for your child to practice their reading skills and fluency. The book must be returned everyday. If your child loses a book, it will cost $10.00 to replace it. • Wednesday Folder: it is sent home every Wednesday and returned on Thursday. All school notes will be sent home this way.

  6. Reading • Expectations - students are expected to be reading on a Level D by the end of the year. If your child is already at a D we will continue to move forward and challenge them. • Reading Strategies – the student will be learning multiple strategies to help them figure out words that they don’t know. • Sight words – these are words that are used often in our stories and it is important to know them. The list is on my teacherweb. • Comprehension – the students must be able to understand, retell, and answer questions about the story.

  7. Daily 5 • It is a daily literacy structure that teaches independence and helps create a love of reading and writing. • I will be pulling small reading groups during this time. • There are 5 tasks: • Read to Self • Read to Someone • Listen to Reading • Work on Words • Work on Writing

  8. Writing • Writers Workshop – It begins with a mini-lesson and modeling. The students will then be writing independently for 30 minutes, while I conference with students. • Phonetic writing example: A ball is big and red. Phonetically written: A bl is bg ad red. • Word wall words (sight words) The student is expected to write these words correctly.

  9. Math • Hands on! Interactive! • Problem Solving Journals • Student will be expected to explain and justify their answers. • We want them to be problem solvers!
