  45. The Zimmerman Telegram Britain intercepted a telegram proposal from Berlin to Mexico, suggesting that Mexico join Germany as an ally if the US entered the war. Why? If Mexico declared war against the U.S., then U.S. might not deploy troops to Europe. In return, Germany would provide support in reclaiming Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.
