B. Salt Marshes 1. Flat muddy wetlands surrounded by estuaries 2. Do much of the same as freshwater wetlands 3. Important to migratory birds
4. Lot of plants, especially grasses a. As die, supply food for baby fishes and marine life there 5. Formed by streams flowing into calm water a. Deposits sediments in a delta b. Eventually sink from weight in a process of subsidence
C. Mangroves 1. Warm climate coastal wetland 2. Dominated by mangrove trees a. 800 different species 10 in U.S. b. Grow on stilt like roots 1. So that they can get oxygen 2. Tend to trap dirt and form islands
3. Being destroyed to form culture ponds for fish and shrimp 4. Also used for waste dumping
