What is Tenant Participation? Workshop presented by Involved Tenants Eudora, John, Margaret and Pauline
What is Tenant Participation? To improve the standard of housing services delivered to Council tenants; Sharing information and ideas; Making a difference; The right to be consulted and influence changes; Tenant Participation came around due to the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001.
Why do we need Tenant Participation? • Tenant Satisfaction; • Improvement of the flow of Information; • Empowerment; • Ownership of the local environment.
Why do we need Tenant Participation? • Local involvement; • Social responsibility; • Partnership working with Councillors and • Council Officers.
The Legal Bit • Housing (Scotland) Act 2001; • Scottish Social Housing Charter (The Charter); • Scottish Housing Regulator.
Ways to get Involved • Become involved in South Ayrshire Council TP Activities; • Join or set up your local RTO/TARA; • Join the Council’s Interested Tenant Register; • Attend Conferences and Events to learn from others’ successes.
Ways to get Involved Communications Group Scrutiny and Performance Group Monitoring Group Tenants lead on improvements and accountability = Better customer services
Communications Group Makessure the Housing department communicates well,and that its publications are of interest and easy to read.
Scrutiny and Performance Group Assesses various aspects of performance and suggest actions to improve it. This will help the housing section to decide how to improve its services.
Monitoring Group Monitors the work of the Communication and Scrutiny & Performance Groups and assists South Ayrshire Council to plan tenant participation activities.
Other ways to get involved • Tenants and Residents Associations (TARA); • Interested Tenants’ Register; • Complete Surveys (paper, telephone, and online); • Enter competitions; • Attending Conferences – by being here today, you have started – you ARE participating!
