Introduction • Client: a public organisation under the responsibility of the Minister for Health and Social Services (MSSS) of Quebec • Request: basic training in searching for scientific and professional literature on the Internet • Steps taken: • needs analysis • selection of topics and resources to present • assessment of the feasibility of such training • choice of the training delivery methods • evaluation of the training by the participants • organizational impacts of this project

  3. Needs Analysis • No subscriptions • External clients: • Clinical advisors & program managers • Psychology, Medicine, Psychiatry, Social work and Nursing • Resources:PubMed, the National Guideline Clearinghouse and Evidence-based practice • Limitations: • Basic English • Computer literacy

  4. Selection of the topics • i) Sources of medical information freely available • French books, free databases, specialized portals (CiSMeF and Medscape), portals of the University, sites of associations and governments, quality of the information sources (1hr); • ii) Evidence-based practice and clinical practice guidelines: • definition, a good research question, systematic reviews, tools (TRIP Database and NGC), exercises (2 hrs); • iii) Searching Medline via PubMed: • search strategies, MeSH, exercises (1h30); • iv) Advanced searching with Google: • such as Google Scholar (1 hr).
