  1. Codan Links Communications Codan 8800 Series Digital Microwave Radio

  2. Digital Microwave Radio 8800 series The Digital Microwave Radio (DMR) 8800 series uses the split Indoor Unit and Outdoor unit (IDU/ODU) configuration common to most high frequency radios

  3. Digital Microwave Radio 8800 series • The Digital Microwave Radio (DMR) 8800 series is a robust and flexible platform that builds on over a decade of Codan experience in the Links industry. • Built on the Legacy of the Codan 7700 Low to Medium Capacity PDH Radio – 10 Year Legacy. • Both the IDU and ODU are manufactured in-house by Codan. • Available in a range of capacities and bandwidths up to 16E1 , E3 or 52Mb/s Ethernet Capacity • Supplied with a 3 Year Warranty

  4. Mixed Transport Mixed Transport Circuit Switched Packet Switched Handle all of your data transport with the Codan 8800 DMR IEEE 802.3 Ethernet LAN/WAN/VLAN 2/4/8/16E1 E3 Convergence

  5. 8800 Indoor Unit (IDU) • One IDU for all ITU-R (ETSI) band plans • Flexible, plug-in Data Interface Units (DIUs) • User interface via LCD, status LEDs and keypad – Installation can be carried out without a laptop • LCD Front Panel and Keyboard, for ease of use • Unique Adaptive IF – detects interference and shifts the IF frequency so that the interferer is outside of the pass band of the IF Filter • Single coaxial cable to ODU • Up to 10,000 unique link • ID codes ensures secure • transmission across the link

  6. IDU Features LCD Front Panel and Keyboard For ease of installation Ethernet Port for SNMP Management via LAN Or local access via PC NMS / SNMP “Daisy Chain” ports Changeable Data Interface Unit (DIU) “N” type connection to ODU DB25 Alarm / IO Connection 5 x Relay out & 4 x TTL In Alarm LED Indicators Front Panel mounted fuse for easy access Aux. RS232 port Convection cooled Chassis – No Fans Terminal Reset button – To allow For hard reset without removing power Wide-mouth PSU Input connector 22-60v, any polarity

  7. IDU Features Keypad and Display Features All settings of the Codan 8800 series DMR are hierarchically arranged in a menu structure. The keys on the control panel enable navigation up and down through the menu structure. Access to the keypad is limited to three levels of passwords – USER, ADMINISTRATOR and SUPERVISOR Back-lit display enables operation in the dark Alarm indication is via LED’s, short messages on the front menu and detailed information in the alarm dialog box, accessed through the menu structure

  8. 2 – 4E1 Plus EOW 2 – 16E1 or E3+E1 2 – 16DS1 or DS3+4DS1 SCSI (with or without 1 x E3) 2 – 16E1 or E3+E1, EOW 2 – 16DS1 or DS3+4DS1 (1+0) and (1+1) Ethernet +4E1 Ethernet +4DS1 100 Base T 8800 Data Interface Unit (DIU) PDH PDH PDH Wireless Bridge (LAN)

  9. Wireless Bridge Features -1 • Ethernet DIU Supports 802.1p/IPv4/IPv6 traffic classification • Indication via LED on DIU for Full Duplex, Half Duplex, Packet Collisions and Port Activity • 4 Individual Ports – 4 Individual Private LAN’s

  10. Wireless Bridge Features -2 Built-in Ethernet Throughput Meter enables throughput monitoring without the need for external test equipment Software configured Data Rates on a port-by-port basis

  11. 8800 Outdoor Unit (ODU) • Available at 7, 8, 10.5, 13, 15, 18, 23, 26 & 38 GHz • One ODU Covers all Data Rates • Robust Modulation Scheme - Continuous Phase Modulation (CP4FSK) implemented rather than QAM/PSK resulting in a more robust link in poor propagation areas (high rainfall, reflected signals etc…) • Full Feature ATPC allows for Lower and Upper Threshold set points down to –10dBm in 1dBm increments • RF Loopback function built in to each ODU at all frequencies below 15Ghz

  12. ODU Features Direct Mount Waveguide Connector AGC Voltage Monitor Point for panning (BNC Connector) IDU to ODU Connector (“N” Type) Antenna Clips ( x 4) Earth Connector

  13. 8800 ODU Operating Parameters • Operates in Altitudes up to 4500m AMSL (15,000 Ft) • ODU Operating Temperature Range -50 ⁰C to +55 ⁰C • ODU Relative Humidity – Up to 100% all weather • IDU – ODU connection up to 300 metres (1,000 feet) • Lightweight – 4.9 Kg • Low power consumption - max 43 W. • A consideration when operating with solar panels

  14. 8800 Access Panels • Access Panel enables simple connection to customer equipment. • Access panel options are:- • 75 Ohm BNC • 120 Ohm Krone • 120 Ohm RJ45 • 120 Ohm D25 • Access Panel supports 1+1 operation

  15. Redundancy Options - Summary • Codan 8800 Series Radio available in two configurations:- • Hot Standby – Protects against equipment failure • Space Diversity – Protects against multi-path fade • Frame by Frame “Hitless Switching” offered in both Hot Standby and Space Diversity options • Asymmetric RF Splitter / Directional Coupler (- 1.8dBm main / 6.5dBm standby)

  16. Redundancy Options - Schematic 1+1, Hot-Standby, 1 Antenna ODU Coupler 1+1, Hot-Standby, 2 Antennas (Space Diversity) ODU Antenna

  17. 8800 1+1 IDU Redundancy Y-cable for 2RU solution saving valuable rack space (below) Passive access panel for 3RU solution (above)
