ARM The arm is the region of the upper limb between the shoulder and the elbow. The arm is divided into two compartments by medial and lateral intermuscular septa. The anterior compartment of the arm contains muscles that predominantly flex the elbow joint; the posterior compartment contains muscles that extend the joint.
Anterior compartment Muscles : Coracobrachialis, brachialis, and biceps brachii Nerve: Musculocutaneous nerve.
Biceps brachii Origin:Long head-supraglenoid tubercle of scapula Short head-apex of coracoid process Insertion: Radial tuberosity N. supply:Musculocutaneous nerve Action: Powerful flexor of the forearm at the elbow joint and supinator of the forearm.
Coracobrachialis Origin: Apex of coracoid process Insertion: Medial aspect of shaft of humerus N. supply:Musculocutaneous nerve Action: Flexor of the arm at the gleno-humeral joint
Brachialis Origin: Front of lower half of humerus Insertion:Coronoid process of ulna N. supply: Musculocutaneous nerve Action: Flexor of elbow joint
Posterior compartment Muscle : Triceps brachii muscle Nerve: Radial nerve
Triceps brachii muscle Origin:Long head-infraglenoid tubercle of scapula Medial head-posterior suface of humerus Lateral head-posterior surface of humerus Insertion:ULNA N. supply: RADIAL NERVE ACTION: Extensor of elbow joint
Anconeus Origin:Lateralepicondyle of humerus Insertion:superior part of posterior surface of ulna N. supply: RADIAL NERVE Action accessory extensor of the elbow joint
Nerves 1. Musculocutaneous nerve 2. Radial nerve 3. Median nerve 4. Ulnar nerve
Musculocutaneous nerve After giving rise to motor branches in the arm, it emerges laterally to the tendon of the biceps brachii muscle at the elbow, penetrates deep fascia, and continues as the lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm.
Fractures of Humerus • Surgical Neck :Axillary Nerve • Mid Shaft :Radial Nerve • Supracondylar :Median Nerve • Medial Epicondyle :Ulnar Nerve
SATURDAY NIGHT PALSY • Radial Nerve Injury in Axilla: • Mechanism: • Crutches pressing in axilla • Saturday night palsy! Main Effect: WRIST DROP
