10 Things You Can Do To Keep Your Kids Safe • Invite local law enforcement into your school (offer coffee or a place to do paperwork) • Remove school calendars and floor plans from "public" areas of school websites • Watch and report any suspicious activities around your school • Install locks on all classroom doors • Drill kids on active shooters, what to do • Install buzzers on all entry doors • Verify who is requesting to use your school during "after school" hours • Have an armed SRO (Security Resource Officer) on premise • Make all visitors check in and wear badges at all times, report those who aren't • Encourage students to report anything that looks out of the ordinary
“How can you not be affected by catastrophic events such as Newtown and Beslan a few years prior? My reaction was like everyone else’s: profound sadness, anger, even despair. But as our lives took those very first steps of trying to return to normal with our children, like returning to school for the first time since that day, I suspect my perspective and my routine was different than my perspective and my routine was different than the many of the parents reluctantly dropping their children off that day. Since I saw Shelley Klingerman’s documentary, Terror in American Schools: Are Your Kids Safe? I am a better parent, a more astute citizen and in many ways a formidable force in preventing anything like Newtown happening again”
“ What Shelley has done for all of us is to give us the tools. You don’t need a gun, a taser, a bulletproof vest; all you need to arm yourself with your senses and intuition. More powerful than any weapon, an army of vigilant parents, teachers and administrators can go a very long way in preventing another heartbreaking event. Do yourself, your family and your community a favor, take the time to watch Terror in American Schools: Are Your Kids Safe?, and I challenge you to not be affected. I promise, you’ll never know your children’s school or daycare the same again. This is where good begins to get the upper hand on evil.” - Dean Del Cazo, parent (Denver, CO)
