New Literacies • In May 2009, the IRA Board of Directors adopted a position statement titled “New Literacies and the 21st Century Technologies,” which noted that in order “to become fully literate in today’s world, students must become proficient in the literacies of the 21st century technologies” (p. 1). IRA proposed literacy educators have a responsibility to integrate information and communication technologies into the curriculum, to prepare students for the future.

Assignment • Head to the computer lab and complete the following assignment: • Create a wiki or a blog • Create a rubric • Listen to the IRA podcast • Summarize your opinion of wikis, blogs, and podcasts using Google Docs! We will collaborate on the document as a class. We will have a class report in one document.
