  1. Linear Models and Systems

  2. Linear Models Linear Models are lines that represent a specific set of data. They can also be used to display data or make predictions.

  3. Researchers Researchers often use linear graphs to track where changes occur over time and how dramatic the changes are

  4. Weathermen • Weathermen often user median-medianlines to make predictions of future temperature changes, wind changes and more

  5. Salesmen Salesmen find trends in sales to predict future number of sales

  6. Statisticians Statisticians look for trends in data, then create a line of fit to predict future data

  7. Job Offers Systems of Equations can be used to find which job you should take Job A: $15.00 an hour, $.50 raise every two weeks Job B: $14.00 an hour, 4% raise every two weeks Which job should you take? It all depends on how long you are going to be working at the job. If you are going to be working for less than 16 weeks, then you should take job A. If you plan to work for a very long time, then you should work at job B

  8. Vocabulary • Line of Fit/Prediction Line:A line that fits reasonably well with the given data • Median-Median Line Method: Using three points to represent the entire data set, and the equation that best fits these three points is used as the line of fit for the entire set of data • Residuals: The vertical differences between the points in your data set and the points generated by the line of fit
